The EX1 camera kit includes 2 x 8 GB and 2 x 16 GB

cards, giving a total record time of 2.5 hours. Footage can

then be downloaded to a computer via USB from the camera,

or the cards can be placed in a card reader and copied to the

computer’s hard drive. MacBook Pro computers have built in

card readers.

Delta Television has a stand-alone card reader supplied

with the camera kit as standard.

Another option is to hire our 17” MacBook Pro computer.

It has Final Cut Studio 2 loaded, so as well as a bulk storage

solution, it is a fully functioning edit suite. It is highly

recommended to copy footage twice to separate hard drives,

as obviously no camera tapes will exist.

Archiving solutions include burning all footage to data DVD’s (an 8GB card fits nicely onto a double layer DVD) or copying all files to external or removable hard drives. As the price of S x S cards comes down over time, it is expected that archiving will eventually be on memory cards, but current pricing of $1,200 for a 16 GB card make this impractical. External 1,000 GB external drives are good value at around $700, or use individual client 250 GB drives for around $250 each.

What’s new in camera hire in 2008 ?

    Sony PMW-EX1

       XDCAM EX

The new EX1 is a fantastic new addition to our range of cameras. Its 1/2” chips are about two stops more sensitive than those on the Z1, and great for soft focus effects,or shooting in the dark. The “real” lens operation is a relief for operators used to large style cameras, and the 1920 x 1080 resolution results in

fantastic image quality.

This is a seriously good

camera in a tiny package.
